Professional Cushions Workshop

This one-day workshop is suitable for the beginner, and for those who can already sew but would like to learn some additional skills for creating professional looking cushions.





The workshop covers the following topics

Cushion Design
Choosing appropriate fabrics, fillings, decoration and fastenings for cushions.  

Measuring and Cutting
Estimation of fabric quantities for cushions, accurate measurement and cutting of fabric, pattern placement and matching.
  
Fastenings
Using zipper and button fastenings in cushions.  

Decorative techniques
An overview of decorative techniques for cushions, including piping, pin-tucks and appliqué.  Making piping using bias strips and piping cord.  



Each student will create a square, zip-fastening, piped cushion cover to take home.  All materials (including cushion pad) are provided and you will be able to choose from a wide selection of fabrics and trims.  

Timetable 
Arrive any time from 9:00am for coffee and pastries.  The workshop will start promptly at 9:30.  Lunch will be served at around 12:30, with additional refreshments throughout the day.  The scheduled finish time is 5:00pm, but if you need additional time to complete your project, you are welcome to stay longer. Similarly, if you need to leave early, you can take the necessary materials to complete your project at home.
